Honda Canada announced Thursday night a voluntary recall of approximately 14,000 Honda CR-V vehicles and 4,500 Honda Odyssey vehicles from the 2012-2013 model years and 2,300 Acura RDX vehicles from the 2013 model year.
The Japan-based carmaker is doing this so it can replace a component of the brake shift interlock system in the affected vehicles. Honda says that in sub-freezing temperatures, after initial use of the vehicle’s gear-shift mechanism, it may be possible to shift the vehicle’s transmission out of the Park position without depressing the brake pedal. No customer complaints, crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered during an internal investigation, the company said in a statement.
Mailed notification to customers is expected to begin in May 2013. In addition to contacting customers by mail, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line to www.honda.ca/recalls and www.acura.ca/recalls or by calling (888) 9HONDA9 for Honda owners or (888) 9ACURA9 for Acura owners
